The Top Interior Design Trends Of 2019

August 2, 2019

Modern spaces deserve modern style, and if you’re about to move into your brand new home you may be wondering where to start when buying furniture and choosing paint colours. So what are the newest looks for interiors, and how do they differ from interior design trends in 2018? This week we stepped into the beautiful display homes at Plantation Palms in Mackay to explore the interior design trends for 2019, as beautifully interpreted by feature builders Gemini Homes and Hotondo Homes.

Calm paint schemes with bold colours

While there’s still room for feature walls and bold paint choices, 2019 is carrying on a minimalist trend when it comes to wall colours. We’re seeing lots of calm, neutral tones on walls, while many are opting for bold colours and warmer tones for furniture, cushions and throw rugs. The advantage of this approach is that you can change up accessories as often as you like to suit the season or trend. For a fresh accent colour, look to Living Coral, Pantone’s 2019 Colour of the Year.

Matte finishes

In a world of shiny devices it seems we’re seeking more character and authenticity in our interiors. Matte finishes are on point in 2019, from wall and paint finishes through to furnishings. It’s the perfect way to add texture and dimension to an interior space, particularly when contrasted with the softness of faux fur or a knotted cushion. There’s no place to hide with matte finishes in wall paints – here, quality is key – so ensure you’re working with a detail-focused builder such as Hotondo Homes or Gemini Homes for the best results.

Metallics

Metallic finishes are here to stay in 2019. Ever-popular rose gold has been joined by warm copper and brass accented features, subtle pewter and even yellow gold in a nod to 1970s nostalgia. There’s no need to choose between the options, either; tastefully mixed and matched metallics are right on trend at the moment. A sophisticated combination of warm and cool metal tones with modern or rustic patinas can create a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere in a home, and looks gorgeous either with bolder colours or with pastels such as millennial pink.

Mid-century modern

We’re seeing plenty of nostalgia in trending interior design styles for 2019, and one of the truly timeless choices for interior styling seems to be that of mid-century modern. We’re seeing feature velvet armchairs in living rooms, lots of organic shapes and warm timbers adding comfort and style to new homes. It’s a fantastic choice that suits a lot of different architectural styles, so no matter which floor plan you choose you’re sure to find pieces to suit.

If you’re after interior inspiration for your new home, be sure to drop into Plantation Palm’s display village seven days a week on Palmetto Crescent, Rural View.
