The people behind the development

The Symons Family

Rob Symons’ family has operated Eulbertie (the original name for the land now occupied by Plantation Palms) as a cane and cattle property for over 100 years. Rob was well known in Mackay and it was his vision that the land would one day form part of the City’s growth. Rob did the early planning work to recreate the site as a residential development and the Symons family to this day has an interest in Plantation Palms to ensure its heritage is maintained.

Paul Ramsay Holdings Pty Ltd

Paul Ramsay’s father, a surveyor, passed on to Paul his passion for property when he gave him his first job in the family land business. Paul has gone on to build a number of large Australian public companies primarily in Media and Healthcare over the past 45 years.

Paul has a strong ongoing association with regional Australia, having major interests in the media and health sectors. Paul immediately saw Mackay’s strengths as a provincial centre, a thriving agricultural sector and an expanding mining industry.

Xcel Property Group Pty Ltd

With over $1bn under development, Xcel Property Group, led by Kim Clarke, has spent 25 years developing a unique approach to urban planning by creating affordable, sustainable communities which are sympathetic to their surroundings. Kim takes a strong interest in local environmental and cultural issues and has made a personal commitment to make Plantation Palms world class.

Kim believes good development believes is not just about subdivision but about creating genuine places to live, learn and grow - as individuals within their community. Kim also has a deep love of the environment. His vision was immediate; he wanted to create a quality community with great streets and parks, while setting a new benchmark in Mackay.
